Just got my first ticket

Went fishing to a pond I hadn't been to in years. About 3 years ago I would go there 1-2 days a week and never seen the Game Warden(or whatever they are called). Heck I didn't even know you had to have a fishing license for the pond because alot of ppl fish there and my mom fished there for years and when I was a child(23 now).

All the times I've fished there I've never had any problems. So I went today without buying my license and guess what I get a ticket. The dude didn't take my stuff or anything(I heard they can). He said if I buy my license before the court date they might do away with it but I would still have to pay the court cost.

I figure since its just $25 I might aswell pay it, it will save me a trip to the court house at 8:00 in the morning on the 12th. He said they may still make me pay it. I was very nervous 😀

BTW I wonder how much court cost will be?

probably like $1000-$2000.

Seriously, how the fack would anyone on these forums know? Call the # on the back of your ticket and find out for yourself.

You will need a license on pretty much any pond/lake that is not on private property.

Edit: For future reference.

(note that this is for my state, but should be related to the OP's issue)

If the pond is public you're screwed; try not to let it get to court costs. If the land is private you still may be screwed. If you can show that the pond has been populated by private means you will be in a much better situation. Assuming there's no river/stream leading into the pond, see if the landowner ever stocked it.

If you acted in good faith on a private pond the authorities should be more reasonable IME. Good luck.

Was just curious what some ppl had to spend for small fines like this. I know its different was just wanting a idea. Won't be able to call till Monday.

I believe you only have to pay court costs if you actually go to appeal the ticket. Why not just pay the fine?

I plan on it. I would rather pay then to deal with it in court. But I think you have to pay the court costs aswell regardless(or so I was told).
