lol sorry im just excited. I switched from a barracuda that only got around 103avd read to a 128GB Plextor M3 and the speed difference is purely insane

I’m glad you like it but keep in mind that synthetics generally don’t mean much. You need some real world tests to see how it really compares.

I wouldn't agree that they don't mean much, they're certainly a good indicator if something isn't quite setup correctly with the SSD. But those numbers are good, esp the 4k reads. Don't think I've seen a number that high before using incompressible data.

It's even more impressive in real world usage scenarios. My primary rig flys, but I will literally stare at my watch while waiting for my work computer or upstairs computer (both on hdd's) to boot up. Or load a level in NWN2. Or boot into TQIT while running seti in the background. etc etc etc...

I reinstalled my 500GB barracuda earlier to get some files I wanted off of it and I was depressed at how long it took to boot up and everything. I will never go back to a Mech drive.

over at overclock.net I was told if I wanted faster 4K speeds I was to turn off (Speedstep) & C1E (3 and 6) in my bios. I was told that these features can actually interfere with 4K

That’s not what I mean. What I’m referring to is when people run synthetic benchmarks and they think they’re going to see those kinds of differences in the real world.

If you’re coming from a fast HDD (e.g. Caviar Black), in the real world you’ll shave a few seconds off boot times or the first time you load a game, but that’s generally about it.

im coming from a mech drive that did about 95-100 read average. I understand I wont see these kind of speeds but the switch has been amazing. :)

That is true... disable C3/C6.

This is what mine looked like until I disabled it...
