Scored a 29% raise 3 weeks ago and finally get to spend it! Basically my boss told me our contract was up here, and we would be out of a job come Oct 1st. This was in mid August. So I went and got 2 more job offers in late August, both offering at least 29% raises and signing bonuses, the only downsides were that I would have to commute an hour each way for both of them, and they wouldn't pay for my continuing education (I'm going for 2nd/3rd degrees in comp sci and Phys therapy). I get offer letters from both companies, one I would have even been working with the Secret Service which would have been cool.

I was all set to leave my company. Then, in early Sept, my boss tells me he found coverage on a contract for the next year, but didn't want to tell me until he was 100% sure. So I was honest and told him I was probably going to leave. I told him, you have one chance to match the other companies, here is the number I want, if we can't reach it, I will leave and no hard feelings... I didn't want to jerk anyone around or burn bridges, so I figured a one shot offer to keep me would be polite. Well, he said they could do it! All in all, I decided the commute wasn't worth it, I only drive 6 miles to work atm. So 29% raise finally hit my wallet, so :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer: all around!!!!!!!

I got a 30% raise a couple months ago. I had to go to a new place to get it, and there was three weeks between paychecks so i didn't get to spend any of it on something fun right away.

It's nice having that boost in income though.

From 40 to 51 and change... one of the companies was so desparate they offered me 55K + 5K signing bonus, but I decided it wasn't worth it because I'd be the only programmer there. Which means if there's a problem, I'm Mr.Fixit with noone else to help out. Also, everyone's real uptight there, strict with EVERYTHING and you are required to wear a suit and tie everyday; and they wanted me on a project to basically bail them out of(they needed a solution asap) which I didn't want the stress (on top of the commute) of doing. The education costs will make up for that lost money anyhow by staying.

That's a good point... my company is larger than one of the others, so their pitch for job security was that if $$ runs dry they can just shift me temporarily to another contract because they have so many of them. I think the smaller company there would have been job security as well, because those guys are one of the best in the biz (they have contracts with the SS for example). The last company is huge (the one that offered me 55) so job security was almost a given there, but I didn't want to work for them given that situation. The cool thing is that IF I ever do get laid off, then the other 2 companies said they would be glad to have me on their teams at any time given they have work for me.
