Sorry for the brag thread, I'm just really excited about it...
This started life as a Plain-Jane Ibanez SA160 in red. I know it's not a JEM, in fact, it's one of Ibanez's cheapies.... but I love this axe.. the feel, the weight, the way it plays.. it's been my workhorse and after getting beat on for the last 7 years, I decided it was time for an overhaul.
Call me crazy for dumping money into an old $400.00 guitar, but it's like your favorite set of sneakers - it's just fits me (and it's a mahogany body) so I gave it over to a buddy of mine who is a luthier for a full makeover. I can't wait to get home tonight and play it!!
The upgrades:
1: Custom flame paint job.
2: Spretzel locking tuners
3: Strap Locks
4: Tesla VR1 Single Coils and VR3 Humbucker (these are a boutique pickup)
5: New 1" 250K pots w/ Sprague orange drop capacitor.
6: A few bad frets got replaced, and the OK ones got leveled, dressed, and polished.
7: New output jack (old one was getting nasty)
8: Push-Pull volume for coil tapping and custom wiring for some pretty rad pickup tone options.
The wiring is what I'm really excited about. Instead of doing a typical coil split like other Ibanez guitars it is wired so that the split coil is always hot when the push pull is pulled up.
Here's how it works...
I've not heard it yet, but the guy who re-did the guitar for me says the three single coils at once mode is pretty bad ass.
