Just got my ear peirced

get a Qtip, dip it in alcohol or Peroxide, take the ring out, clean it and the both side of the pierce. do it on morning, before bed, and whenever you get back home. (so like 3 times as she said unless you nef here all day long 🙂 )
do this for like a month. (at least for me, coz i heal fast, which is bad for peircings.) one time I forgot to put the ring back on and the hole healed within 7 hours. that was major suckage coz I need to peirce it my primative self, hurts like hell.

When I got my ears done, I cleaned them with Alcohol and put Bacetracin (Neosporin works just as well) for the 1st 2 weeks. After that I put the Bacetracin on for another 2-3 weeks and both ears came out fine 🙂 Oh, and I did all this without taking the earrings out. The first time I took em out was over a month after the piercing

do a saltwater soak twice a day(soak a cotton ball in warm salt water, but not soo much salt and hold it to the piercing until it gets cool. soak it for about 15 minutes) wipe off the crusties with a q-tip.
/me wonders why people go and do this without researching it first

now, the reasons are:
alcohol damages new tissue, as does peroxide. they also dry out the piercing
anything with a -sporin doesn't allow the piercing to breath, which it needs. don't swim until it's healed(usually 6-8 weeks)
and PLEASE, the next time you get it done, if you didn't already(and if you did, don't go back there) get it done at a reputable, clean tattoo/piercing parlor
i suggest you go to a piercing studio and get a professional to look at it. BME has a list of reputable piercers in most large cities. it also explains the dangers of gun piercings, but it's quite long so i think i'll make a separate thread

Like others have said here, do NOT use the Neosporin. The first time I had mine done I just used Bactine on a cotton pad, & I didn't have any trouble. When I got it re-done in the same place, I had a bottle of antiseptic provided by the piercing place. Seemed about like Bactine, maybe a little more diluted. No problems with that either.

Bactine is supposed to be really drying, so unless you have some medical moisturizer(like the kind they use in hospitals, no additives and such) and you clean it off after, then the best thing to use is just salt water, and if you had a CBR, some Dial soap(the orange, non-scented stuff) and rinse it well

peroxide is evil. read the bottle "not for puncture wounds". it will destroy any new tissue being formed. and don't just clean it for a week, because after a week it has just started to regenerate the skin and is still VERY prone to infection. my tragus piercing is 4 weeks old but i still clean it twice a day with salt water, and will clean it until it is completely healed. once it is(for me it's about 3 month healing time because it's cartilige) then you can slack off to once a day or so.

Second of all - DO NOT TAKE THE RING OUT to clean it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Just use anti-bacterial soap once a day - or even better yet salt water soaks. Don't overclean, just make sure you wash shampoo off really well after taking a shower.
AND DO NOT PLAY WITH IT - that's how it gets infected. Don't touch it unless you're cleaning it.
And the woman was full of sh|t with the stuff she told you to do.
