Just got my e740, and it is already scratched!

I just got my Toshiba e740 less than a week ago, and it already has scratches on the screen where the letter recognizer pops up. I was wondering, has everyone experianced this, or am I the only one? I don't press hard when I write, so I'm stuck here scratching my head wondering how this happened. I had a Jornada 568 (that I exchanged to get the e740) and I never noticed any scratches, only dust under the screen (which is the main reason I returned it). I am happy to report though, there is no dust under the screen. So I was wondering, should I go back to the store and exchange it (I have 1.5 weeks left to exchange), or is the scratching inevitable without a screen protector? I really don't like screen protectors, so any help from you guys would be great.

Honestly, I've always used screen protectors (up until my new e550g...the screen is just too pretty to put a protector over it). Could you have possible gotten something abrasive on the screen then used it? I doubt it would scratch from normal use in a week. Unfortunately, I don't know how much luck you'll have in returning it, but good luck.

They're really expensive... but I use WriteShields. They're about $30 for a pack of 3, but they're reusable and they don't case much fogging when you put them over your screen. They feel smooth and they're really durable. A lot easier to apply than WriteRights too. If you're going to shell out $600 for a PocketPC, I think it's definitely worth the investment.

Why would they exchange it? It's your fault

The main place you get scratches is from your stylus. That's why I have gotten into the habit of wiping my stylus off on my shirt each time before I use it, to make sure that it hasn't picked up some small piece of grit or abrasive material.

I've been using my e550g since Tuesday, and no scratches yet. I take VERY good care of my PDAs 😀

How do you like it so far? I think it's my favorite PDA to date!

I absolutely love it. Only problem so far has been that my Sandisk 128MB SD stops intializing after a while. See here:

Turns out that the 128MB Sandisk SD cards are crap and just about everyone is having problems with them. Luckily, I got an RMA this morning from Buy.com and send it back this morning at the UPS center in Office Depot (I was surprised that Buy.com actually prepaid for return shipping:Q).

But this PDA kicks ass. The 4" screen is pure sex...not that I know what that's like anyway 😀

NFS4,

Not too familar with pocket pcs but where can you get the 550g. Is it released under another name. I just ordered the e740 but after looking at reviews of the 550g, the screen is the best I have seen. I don't really need the wifi

I got my e550g from CompUSA for $599. It came with a free 64MB CompactFlash card and a free 802.11b CompactFlash card as well at that price 😀

So I shouldn't get a Sandisk SD card? What kind should I look for? I want at least a 128MB, probably 256MB.

STAY AWAY FROM THE SANDISK!! 😀 I bought the Sandisk for $64 with free shipping at Buy.com on the 5th. I RMA'd today (just beat the 30 day limit😉). I then ordered a Lexar 128MB for $66 with free shipping from Buy.com.

But do a search in the Toshiba forums or in the General PocketPC forum for "Sandisk" over at Brighthand, and you'll see about 20 threads daming the 128MB Sandisk cards to hell.

**EDIT**

WTH!! Looks like all posts between '01 and 8/27/02 are GONE over at BH:Q

is it that new...how come i don't see it on the toshiba website or at other online retailers. this pda looks so much nicer than the e740.

Steve has been having a lot of database problems with the board lately. Don't know why.
