Just got my computer running again, noticing HIGH temps

I got my replacement video card (BFG 6800gt oc) and was really glad that my computer worked again. I ran 3dmark'03 quite a bit, along with CoD.

Today i installed HL2, and while updating it with Steam i noticed that my CPU was under full load. I checked it out with Smartguardian (what my DFI board came with) and noticed it was at 58-61 C. After it was done it went down to 49-52 C in about 10 seconds or so.

I think the BFG card raised it by some (i know the old idle used to be 44-46 C with my leadtek card), but not by that much!

Is this ok? My computer seems stable, but it seems awfully high.

I have some questions now:

-If i update my bios or nForce drivers will i get a more accurate (and hopefully lower) reading?
-Would AS ceramic (as5 voids warrenties from what i've heard, and that isnt good for me) lower it a bit from the combination of AMD stock paste and Zalman paste?

I'm going to get an PCI slot exhaust fan for next to my BFG and some round IDE cables tomorrow to vent some hot air out and improve airflow.

Also, what do you use to get thermal paste off HS/F's and CPU's without damaging anything or taking the CPU out of the socket?

Thanks! 😀

i used some isopropl alchol to get my thermal paste off, as directed by AS's website. worked good. those temps are diffenately boarderline for your processor....make sure you apply the AS correctly, as directed by theyre website, and see if that lowers your temps. yeah sometimes bios updates fix temp readings. i dont think nforce drivers would though, but update those anyway.
good luck, be careful not to burn up your processor :S

Those temps are nothing to worry about. They are the same as mine (AXP2500 @ 3200).

60C is pretty damn hot. not dangerous, but something to keep an eye on.

60C is the temperature your hot water has in the tap. Sure it's hot but I would guess a stock AXP3200 will run at that temp since the stock HSF is the same.

Never mind my drivel but I wouldn't worry much and then spend big $$$ to bring it down to 50C under load.

I'm not sure but I dont think there is a single A64 board out there that reads the temp senors right. My NEO2 says my FX-55 is running at 95-105F and yet the the temp probe I have on the side of the heatspreader is saying 75F and the waterblock itself is at 70F right now.....

ok

Yes, i have 2 thermal pastes on right now. My friend that helped me put it together put the stock HS/F on and when he pulled it off after he saw my zalman the paste was still there. There wasnt much on, but we put some of the stock Zalman paste on over it, and it's a pretty thick layer.

I think i'll get some AS Ceramic stuff, sounds good.

Also, before i got this BFG my cpu temps were about 45 C idle and 50-52 C load. Did my BFG (compared to Leadtek card) heat my case up this much? I'm thinking about buying a PCI exhaust fan to put under my BFG, but would that help at all?

wait, does AS5 really void your warrenty? Because at Hardcorecooling.com there's a 3.5g tube for $6 with free shipping.
