Just got my ATI silencer

I too have an ATI silencer. I believe ATI support suggests using the compound that comes with the silencer instead of another compound. I figured they knew best. This is what I did and have had excellent results.

well if you have AS5 and im guessing it's opened, why not use that? only those who has a few tubes laying around that is not AS5 should consider

I know the AS5 will fry anything it touches that it shouldn't. I don't know if the stuff that comes with Silencer is non-conductive though.

I thought AS5 was non-conductive.. like Ceramique..

It's non-conductive, but it IS capacitive, so it can still short out components. Use ONLY on the core.

From ArticSilvers web site.

Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)

Use AS5 only on the GPU core, it will short the PCB if it touches it. Either use Ceramique or the stock paste for the rams.

I put some leftover AS3 onto my GPU for the silencer and it works great, I don't see why AS5 wouldn't work well too. I had a load temp drop of almost 30º C on my X850 core with the silencer, it's excellent.

So do you mean you should not use it on the RAM chips? I am using it right now and nothing so far.

I would like to know this also. I just got an ATI Silencer 5 today and need to know what to do with the ram chips. I have AS3 for the core.
