I just installed my new card (as per the directions on this forum) then proceeded to run 3Dmark2k3. I ran this with my DC client running in the back ground on a P4C 2.4 @ 3.3gig. I was shocked to see that my score of 5071 was nowhere near that of the Nvidia 5900 Ultras that are running 7000+. Any clue as to why? I have the AA and AF set to max so I guess that could have something to do with it.

LOL.

Overall i think 9800pro is at about 95% of 5900 ultra's performance, which is zero difference to the eye of a person.Nevertheless the score's great with AA/AF at these levels.

Personally I think 3dmark 2k3 scores are worthless. Perhaps they're good to check relative performance of identical cards (in case something is drastically wrong) but otherwise they're good for nothing. 2k1 was at least a bit better, but I still prefer in-game benchmarks.

Damn right.I was talkin about an estimated overall performance.
But EVERY GAME may lead one or another to the top.
And can u really see so much difference?? Cmon now it is ALMOSTNEVER NOTICEABLE

Just ran it again before I left for work with the DC client turned off and left the AA and AF maxed. My score only jumped to 5369 so I guess the HT process really does work quite well. I will try tomorrow with AA and AF off and see what happens.

I can't really see anyone scoring that high with AA/AF maxed, either.
He was joking dillrod! LOL

???

I was just saying that, at least for me, game 2 (I stopped there) was crippled with 4xAA and 8xAF, let alone max both. I can't see him getting 5k with that. I never let the entire demo run, of course, but in the part I saw, game 2 ran like it was on a Ti4400...

nice, but i think i will sit this generation out. when doom3 comes out, i will pick up a r420 or a nv40 or even a 9800 for cheap

How could you possibly think that the 5900 is somehow 5% faster than a 9800? Must be some interesting games.

I will not make this another debate of Nvidia vs Ati. I stated my opinion based on computer analysis of many many sites and magazines.Of course i can be wrong. But we will never know till the good dx9 games arrive

That's funny. All the reviews I've read show the 9800 Pro beating the 5900U in most head-to-head real world benchmarks. The 9700 Pro even bested the 5900U in some tests.

As for DX9, this review from GamersDepot states:
We don?t know how anyone could objectively look at the performance we?ve seen in these benchmarks and conclude that a 5900 Ultra is a smarter buying decision than a 9800 Pro ? even the 128MB 9800 Pro (as used in the tests here) trumps the lofty 256MB 5900 Ultra. If you?re still ?stuck in the past? and think that ATI is plagued with driver issues, than go ahead and keep your head stuck in the sand like an ostrich, buy a 5900 Ultra and then start crying when your pals are smoking your ass in games like Half Life 2 and Halo because they?re running ATI hardware.

duh

Just ran it with AA anf AF at 2X (could not figure out how t disable it completely) and I got just over 5K with the DC client running. So it was almost identical with AA and AF at max.

FYI - Same card here. Abit IC7-Max3 / P4-2.4C@3Ghz / 512MB PC3500 (5:4) / Radeon 9800NP @ default pro speeds - No AA/AF - SETI@Home not running...

3DMark2001 - 17136
3DMark2K3 - 5684

What do you mean "max"? You could not possibly get over 5K with 6X AA and 16X AF.
