So I finally made the switch from CRT to LCD... not quite sure I'm satisfied.

1) I feel like reaching over and wiping off the screen all the time - it looks "dirty" or smudged somehow, is this normal?

2) I kept reading in reviews how awesome the viewing angle was.. yet, I barely have to move to the left or right, before the blacks start turning red - I guess this is just the way it is?

3) What brightness level are your LCDs set at?

LCD monitors should not be as easy as CRT to accumulate dirt because they don't have static.
People always have uncomfortableness when switching to LCD monitors from CRT. But once you get used to LCDs you don't want to go back to CRT

Dell 2005FPW? 8)
If you mean revision, it's A01.

Another issue: massive backlight bleeding in the lower left corner. Maybe I am just way more picky than everyone else :(

Well many people do report 2005FPW had loads blacklight bleeding problem. If you aren't happy with it, better RMA it
When are all these A01 revisions going to landfill? A02s are much better
Stupid Dell should just destroy all defective products.

There's an A02. A02 is made in May as well.
Are you sure yours is A01? Last batch of A01? oO
But they made quite a buzz because it seems to have solved all the blacklight problems

Edit: Hm it seems that A01 May is common as well

Sigh I want one of this as well. These are cheap in USA, but like 2 times as expensive in UK and HK. No luck for me

1) if you haven't tried cleaning it with some water and mild soap, you may want to do so. it might have manufacturing oils on it. otherwise, i've found that you can almost make out the individual R, G, B pixels on a color LCD monitor, and that makes solid neutral colors look a bit different than a CRT.

2) go to the other side and it will turn a different color. blue, i think, but i'm not sitting in front of mine. go even further and the thing will turn almost black. that point where it goes almost black is the end of the viewing angle. you will get some slight color change if you're not in the middle of the monitor, again due to how LCDs work.

3) i had to turn the brightness down when i first got it because the thing is goddamn bright.

The viewing angle shouldn't be that short. I had one until I exchanged it for a 2405FPW and could get almost vertical before it lost most of its color. Are you running it at 1680x1050 in DVI mode?
