Congrats in getting your foot in the door!

lol, my first tech job was in CompUSA. I got the job because simply because I knew the difference between the Pentium MMX and Pentium II. It landed me a corporate sales position, lol.

Now, 7 years later I am at a great job (albeit mostly helpdesk) that allows me to nef all day on ATOT.

Runaway, run far, far away....

After 15 years and 7 jobs with 6 different companies, I can seem to escape the hell hole that is the tech job world.... Prepare yourself to hate computers and the people that use them.

Oh, and congrats on the new job!! :D

There are days I wanna carry a hammer with me though...

<--- Has his English degree :(

I don't actually hate my job, but I really would prefer to be doing something along the lines of my degree like writing ><

You guys seriously hate your tech jobs?

I was hired by a local ISP here, I only have one boss. I'm my own manager. I can't see how this would suck.

It will also give me more experience for my MCSE.

After spending a couple years now at my "first" real tech job, I find myself not being able to tollerate computers. Recently I sold all my extra gear, desktop, and soon my PC games. When I get home I just don't even want to think about it anymore.

Looking to get back into an old hobby albeit more expensive.

I really like mine if it makes you feel better, have liked all of them I've ever had except Geeksquad..which was horrible.

But the University is the best tech job ever. =D

Hmmmm...let's see. In most tech jobs, especially ones that deal with users....

- Users rarely call you unless something is wrong
- Users call you when they want something new (which you either can't control or don't have money for)
- Users are rarely satisfied how long it takes to resolve the issue (that they usually caused)
- Most users don't understand that most of their issues can be fixed by a reboot
- You get asked how to fix their home computer for free (that was probably messed up by the teenage boy in th ehouse browsing for porn)
- Users don't understand that you can't just reload an OS in a few minutes when they delete all of those folders that the didn't think they needed (true story, before the WinXP days..)
- Users think all problems are caused by the computer, even though a large number are user error (please remember the I-D-ten-T and PEBKAC errors)
- Do I even have to mention phone support (support over the phones or phone system support, you pick)

I could go on if you give me long enough.

On the other hand, the pay is decent.

I start at $10 and work up to $15 within 3 months. I don't have any certifications.

The interview went smooth, we traded tech talk. I told him why MS was releasing SP3 for XP, he asked me how far I am on my MCSE (2 chapters away from finishing 70-290)

Then he showed me a desktop, and then asked me to fix it. It would boot towards XP and then shut off. It took me about 3 minutes to figure out that the seal between the CPU and the CPU fan was bad. I resealed it and it boot up fine. :)

When it booted into XP and the desktop popped up, he said, "Soo, when can you start?" :D

Place your bets now on the number of days before Duddy posts his first "my customers are friggin stupid!" type post... I give him two weeks :)

Oh the other hand, my customers loved me when I used to do desk side support. I didn't get the real evil folks until I started doing server-side stuff.
