i've owned the following logitech mice:

4 ballmice
mx300
mx310
mx510

i must say i am impressed with this mx510
it doesn't skip at 1600x1200 in fast action UT fighting like my mx300 and mx310 would sometimes do

it looks nice too and i like the auto scroll

the price is a little steep but i would imagine it will drop to 40 or less in a few weeks for those looking to get a nice optical mouse

Nah, the sale is off so anyone who missed it is out of luck. Still a great mouse though. Didn't think anything would be as good as my MX500, of which I have three, but this MX510 is notically better feeling than it's older brother.

Had MX300 which broke, so I got the MX510. Most people would say that you can't feel the difference (in the optical sensor) but you can. When you move the mouse faster, it feels very different (faster) than the MX300, or even the MX310 and MX500. I love it!

thats great, went through two mx500 and a few older versions of the mouseman design and the mx500 is definetly the worst of all the "good" logitech mice, hate the frginng buttons on that thing, it makes a kind of a braking/scratching sound when I press them and ofcorse the mousebuttons have to be like way above the actual button so you start pressing and thunk, you hit the actuall button on the circut board and then click, so its always thunk-click or screetch-click

Is the MX510 contoured for just righties? It looks like its built for both either hand?

yeah just for right handers unfortunately
it has a thumb groove on the left side

i dunno why they felt they should leave out 9 to 11% of the population...

maybe they'll come out with a left handed version soon

Best Buy had them on sale for $39.99 last week. Not sure if they are still on sale or not.

It's only $34 if you work at Best Buy... or know someone that does ;)

That`s cheap, they`re around £32-£35 in the UK,I think I order one soon to replace my aging mouseman wheel optical mouse.
