I was driving to school and was in the left turn lane (which is pretty long) and a lady in a 98 Explorer in the center lane doesnt check her side mirrors or look behind her and turns a sharp left to go to the gas station. I brake hard and turn slightly to the left and that avoided a front end collision. My cars front-right side hit the ladys rear-left side and I left a skid mark like 5-8 feet long. She admitted it was her fault and kept apoligizing and kept telling me her life story, like "My boyfriend is suicidal and I just had a bad breakup". She also said something like "In Chicago, the Left Turn lanes arent this long. Im not used to it, I just moved out here to the suburbs a couple of months ago."

ah well, maybe I can get a better car now. The car still works fine, but the front right side if fscked up.

Ive got a 93 Intrepid with 120K miles on it. Not that big of a loss, so if her insurance company (Allstate) pays me enough, I may just put it towards a new car and sell this one.

Maybe its a blessing in disguise...:Q

Depends on the insurance company. I had close to $2800 in damage done to my car by a person who was insured under geiko. They just cut me a check for that amount in my name to do with as I wished. If I didn't want to have it fixed, I could have just pocketed the money.

Where it gets messy is if the car is not titled in your name - meaning a bank or a financing company actually owns the vehicle. Then you are required to have the repairs done.

My Dad owns the car. My Intrepids actually worth like $2000 and to fix the damages, it would be more trouble than its worth. Thats what happened when my dad was rearended by some guy a couple of years ago. The insurance co. gave my dad like $500, which was the value of the vehicle, rather than fixing the damages, which wouldve been over a thousand. This was another car, not the Intrepid
