Just Got Hit By a Virus-Please Help

I am using Micrososft IE5.5 on my computer with Norton Internet Security and Norton Anti-Virus 2000. I just recived a virus that I can not get removed. It does not allow me to get e-mails from my provider. The Norton Anti Virus states the following:

Infected E-Mail Attachment
Message: Re: trade In ???
Virus: W32.Badtrans@mm.enc

When I go through the steps to quarantine the virus it sates that it has quarantined it successfully. I then try to get messages from my e-mail provided and it times out. WhenI go back in to retrieve it then again goes through the detection process. I hope I explained this logically. Anyway I am up the creek without a paddle and don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can't just quarentine it - you've got to eliminate it.

It creates a hidden file in your recycle bin that fills up to the capacity of the drive... thus there is no place for the file to download to. Badtrans is a bad one - and so many people have it right now that don't even know it.

My hints:
1. Turn off auto preview in Outlook or OE -- most of the infections are coming from this. The email may never be opened, but the virus is executed by autopreview.

2. Get and maintain a good antivirus program -- honestly, I prefer McAfee over Norton, but they're both good. Right now, you've got to update your dat files at least weekly.

3. Never, ever open an attachment you're not expecting. Especially if it ends with .exe, .bat, .com, .pif, .scr (<< GONER virus appears as a screensaver!)

Badtrans isn't too hard to get rid of, but you've got to follow the directions. I've removed it from three computers this week (friends', not mine...). Both Norton and McAfee's websites have good, thorough instructions.

Good Luck. If you need more help, pm me.
