Just got dsl from bell south. Works when I plug it directly into my.....

pc and I can get on the internet. I plug it into my router, AirLing 101 router and I cannot get anything going. Both my computer and Packet 8 phone are a no go. I am not using the wireless portion of the router but the way I had it hooked up on the cable line using the wires (I am going to use the wireless for my kids computers when I get done with them since they are far away from me).

So what gives? I went into network connection when it is going directly through the computer and hit repair and im on. It wont do that through the router. I have also disabled my firewall and it doesnt make a difference.

I am super new to DSL so if I am missing something please help me and tell me what it is I am doing wrong or need to make it work. I am guessing it has to do with the IP addy???? If so how do I work that out????

Thanks in advance!!!

Did you configure the router for the DSL connection? Most likely it is PPPoE, so you'll have to set the router up. You might also have to clone the MAC address of your PC's network card on to the WAN port of the router.

Did they give you a modem or a modem/router? The difference being that with a modem you have to use a PPPOE dialup client - either they installed one or you're using the one that came with WinXP. If you're using PPPOE then you actually have something that looks like a dialup connection window with a username and password to get online.

If you're using a modem then your wireless router must be configured to connect to the modem using PPPOE (in the setup menu is an option for that, and a place where you enter your username and password).

If you're using a modem/router then you can't connect a router to a router unless you make sure that the wireless router is using a different LAN base IP address than the DSL modem/router.

For instance if the DSL modem/router's LAN address is 192.168.1.1 (the most common) then the wireless router should be configured to use 192.168.0.1 (we changed the second digit to put that router in a different group).

To complicate matters, it's also possible that the modem (or router/modem) is locked to the MAC address of your computer in which case you need to clone that MAC address to the wireless router.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about it might be worth your while to hire someone to set it up for you. That's a 1 hour job.

You might also call the tech support line for your router and see if they'll walk you through it.

Most modern routers also have very smart installers that can figure out most of this by running an installation CD and answering a few questions.

OK this and the other guy mentioned the same thing. I believe that may be it but I dont know what to do. Any chance one of you can walk me through it??

And I have a adapter (Westtell WireSpeed) if that matters as well.
