Just got dsl and apps no longer trigger my internet connection. What's up with that?

I just got dsl and it used to be that when I launched Outlook express or Netscape browser, it would trigger my dial-up connection. Now, that I have dsl, it doesn't do that. Both have settings set for 'LAN' connection instead of dial-up, I think, and I thought that would do the same thing as the dial-up. But it doesn't.:(
Any ideas?

Since you have the settings as a LAN connection, your programs assume that a connection is always avaliable. So they don't know they need to logon to your DSL ISP...

As far as I know there's no way to get ur PC to automatically login other than to write a windows script...

I'm a bit confused, since you have dsl isn't your connection up already or do you have to log into it each time with some sort of ppoe thing?

I am wary of being online all the time because I haven't gotten around to installing a firewall. So to prevent prying, I'd log on when I needed to(it's quick enough).
BCYL, would you happen to know where to start with that script? I've never done that kind of prg before.

Sorry I don't know how to write that kind of script neither... but I remember someone asking here before regarding writing a script to automatically logon to his DSL upon startup... So doing a search in these forums might find something...
