Just got done hosting my first LAN party...

It was pretty small, only 8 people showed, but i guess it's a good start for my first one. We had it at my church in the social hall(i talked 'em into letting me borrow it 😀) Gameplay consisted of mainly UT, we did some CS, and then a bit of StarCraft(BW).......i'd say it went extremly smooth for being my first one, no lag is GREAT. Started at 6 oclockish, had everyone setup by 7(luckly i brought a spare network card, someone's died) then after that it was smooth sailing, just had to figure out teams.....but yeah, i was awake for 30 hours, and now it's time to crash(yeah i slept for an hour when i got home) So i'm stoked 😀 6 pizzas and about 35 pepsi's later........heh, it was for my b-day so i gave it to myself hehe, now i need to work up to more people......maybe some people from AT(ooooooo there's an idea!!!)

I have yet to experience the thrill of my first LAN party. 🙁

Congrats that everything went so well! There are too many horror stories of the "first time" floating around. 🙂

oh man, I still have not even been to a single lan party... sad.... Congrats on that one working out and happy birthday

ive been to alot at just local kids houses and stuff, usually get like 10-12 people. they go pretty good. ive never acutallt been anywhere but strewn around someones house though, never been to like a hall place.

glad you made it through your first one 🙂

its nothing big, basically all fun

Giga or anyone else, what kind of horror stories have you heard about 1st time lan parties?

Do people usually bring laptops to these? Seems like it would be too much trouble to haul a desktop and monitor there.

Nah, people do bring desktops. Gaming on a laptop would suck anyway. Unless you had a REALLY good one. It's not really that hard to haul the comp around anyway.

yea, if it for a solid overnight of gaming, i would much prefer to lug around the desktop. not many laptops can compare, and i personally dont have onoe that does.

i live in iowa

i've been to 4 states in my entire life, one of them being less than a mile away from my house, so it hardly counts

never been to a lan party 😉

It wasn't that bad bringing monitors and such, i picked two guys up, and the rest drove themselves....it might have been a little bit of a hassle, but it was worth it!!!!! Yeah, i've had friends over at my house before, and been over to someone elses....most i've ever done was 4 on the network at the same time, and we were all running 98se.....this time two people were.....four on XP, one on 2K, and one on ME........I was originaly going to have it at my house, but then there was the room constraint and the power is a major issue here....we've done four, but not sure we'd handle 8 at my house...

Years ago a friend of mine had 4 of us over to play quake 1, otherwise I've never done a lan party involving a large group or strangers or anything.

<< the power is a major issue here >>

as an example, a small floor heater in the other room was turned on just now, and the circuit breaker tripped(clumsy thing!) oy, that's how little power we've got here, very precarious(sp?)

Nice. I've had about 12 lan parties this year with my friends. We recently pooled together for a 16 port switch and there have been no networking problems since. 😀 We mostly play UT, Starcraft, CS, Q3, Tribes, and Tribes 2 and all the various mods for Q3 and UT. Still looking for other games to play though.. since I'm getting bored of some of them.. 😀
