I finished Diablo I but never got around to playing II.

I wonder how it compares to Dungeon Siege for mindless offline fun since DS has all the 3D eye candy.

:) :cookie: Honestly, Titan Quest FTMFW. The game (and it's expansion, Immortal Throne) is the shit.

May your social life not get impeded by the devil that is an addictive game.

Good luck, sincerely.

I weep for your poor, doomed classic characters if you plan on playing 1.11 patch. You might consider reading some build guides at diabloII.net and starting over. LoD changed a lot of mechanics, and 1.11 changed even more.

I'd actually buy that Diablo II pack if it weren't $40... I mean c'mon, $40 for Diablo II? :/

At one time Sierra actually made some great games. Like all good things though that came to an end when it got too corporate.

nah, that's why I decided to buy an expansion to a game I've thoroughly played, instead of buying a whole new game and re-addicting myself ;)

Don't underestimate LoD. With all the new uniques, sets, and everything else, it was ridiculous.

Luckily I kicked that habit a few years ago.

I leveled my Matriach Sorc up to 87 during a couple weeks last month; she's needs better gear as she's still wearing Full Tal's.

I'm not entirely sure what that means, but OK ;)

I have a headache ... I spent the last 2-3 hours reading up on guides for the expansion, particularly the ones on the battle.net forums

I dont judge fun factor by quality of graphics. Those are completely seperate issues for me. I'd rather have fun and be entertained, thats what video games are for. If I just want to be visually impressed I'll go to an art gallery. If I need a hi-tech 3D fix I'll watch a modern movie. But video games were made for interactive fun.

Having said all that, I think both Diablo 2 and Dungeon Siege are lots of fun. Good pace and lots of neat weapons & spells. I like Dungeon Siege a little more, not because its 3D but because you can have up to 8 characters. Each of them can specialize how you want.
Also, they can auto attack. I really didnt care for the insane amount of clicking required in the Diablo games. But even with that issue they were still lots of fun.

I love Titan Quest even more, and the add-on helps. Theres nothing original about it. Its all been done before, but its high quality and its been blended together very well.
Graphics, sound, action based gameplay, simple quest discovery and completion, streamlined interface, equipment, classes & abilities, locations, and monsters are all top notch in this game. Maybe not new, but extremely well done and a great overall experience.

Matriarch/Patriarch - Beaten hell difficulty
Tal's - Tal Rasha's armor; High Sorceress set that makes the character shine...

EDIT: I'm not 100% sure is Matriarch/Patriarch are the right terms, but I think they are.

I have to agree about Titan Quest. It may not be innovative, but I haven't had as much fun playing a PC game in a long time.

Diablo II had me hooked for a long, long time. But eventually I got tired of doing Blood Runs and the Cow Level. I generally like Dungeon Siege a bit more (never played Aranna or 2) for the visuals (seeing the Cliffs of Fire for the first time is pretty damn cool) and the progress-how-you-play leveling. Some of the magic was definitely overpowered, though (Pillar of fire comes to mind).

Everyone keeps mentioning Dungeon Siege and Titan Quest, and I've realized that I missed these titles. Would they still be worth picking up? If they are, which one should I get (or should I get both?).

Titan Quest is pretty much a modern Diablo clone. I just picked up the expansion pack, it adds a few nice extas. I haven't played Dungeon Siege yet.

Dungeon Siege is similar to Diablo in its overall gameplay - hack n' slash RPG. You find items, progress through areas, kill bosses, find phat lewt, etc. Each "area" also has a town, much like Diablo. The thing that's different is instead of upgrading skills through a tree as you level, you have four "skills": Destruction magic, Nature magic, Archery, and Melee IIRC. For the first two, you buy spells and they become more powerful as you level up that skill. With the last two, you buy weapons and you get better with them (and find new ones) as you level.

I haven't played in awhile, so I might be missing something. That's pretty much the gist of it, though.

I hate LoD. The only good thing it has is an increased resolution.

Ahh, the old days of Hardcore Mode on Battle.net before LoD.

I never used the Crafted Items much, but LoD does have some cool stuff. the new sets and uniques are nice. And I love playing as a Druid. I've always found Assassins a little awkward to use, though. The thing that's always frustrated me is that no one ever bothers to play Act 5. It's definitely better than Act 3 (which everyone also avoids).

I completely disagree. I played Diablo II before LoD, and I gladly welcomed the changes. Runes were a great addition (jewels not so much), and I loved runewords. Also charms added some great items as well. Class specific items were cool, and the LoD unique and set items are unmatched.

Also, the extended stash and back weapons were useful.

Hirelings became much more in depth, following the player through acts. I actually got attached to my mercenary, since I could give it equip and level it more effectively.

Also, Druid was the funnest melee class IMO.
