just got diablo 2, is there a way to save in the game?

the only way i can save is using the menu and choose save and exit, is there a way to save at a certain spot in the game so you won't lose your position from before?

Nope.

Actually, as I recall, the game automatically saves for you every once in a while. Unfortunately, there's no way of telling when it is saving, so if you pick up an awesome item and want to be safe, I suggest a manual save, even though you will lose your progress since the last waypoint.

If you're playing in multiplayer mode (not battle.net), there is a command line setting that "sets" the number of players to 8. This will make the monsters 8X tougher, but that also means 8X more rewards (e.g. XP) when you kill them.

I forgot that command though, hope someone else can give you the exact command or provide a link.
