Im using Zonealarms free firewall. It really seems to work good.

Q) is this good enough?

What is the best way to protect your computer? do i select the switch on my modem to standby. Or just click LOCK on ZOnealarm ?

Thanks

Zone Alarm is good and should be enough. I guess if you're really paranoid, you can physically turn off your cable modem (or put it on standby if you have that option), but it's probably not necessary.

You could put your system behind a router (hardware firewall). I use both (hardware and software) myself. I like the software solution to monitor stuff trying to get out as much as people/proggies trying to get in....

I have a home network set up with the SMC Barricade. It works great and even has a built in printer port. www.practicallynetworked.com has some good reviews and info if you're interested.

You could try a hardware firewall. I have a Linksys cable/dsl router, may be a solution if you want to hook up more than one pc to your connection, has a built in firewall.
