21 years old and now have a bunch of junk in my mouth. I got the clear kind though, so that's not too bad, but this stuff is annoying. I can't imagine going 2 years with this stuff in my mouth. *sigh*

It could be worse, you could have retainers...

I'll probably have to have jaw surgery at some point in the next few years. They want to do braces for six months to a year before the surgery... 23 and braces. I'm not sure my pride could take it.

I need them too, one of these days I need to get it done. Might as well use the $1,000 I have in orthodontic insurance while I still have it.

I've had braces for two years then went to a retainer for like a year after. Oh yea I had my wisdom teeth taken out too. Two on each side. Fun Fun Fun.

I'm 25 and though my teeth have been great shape for most of my life a few years ago the top outsides started to cave in a bit. My thoughts are that this was caused by my wisdoms pushing them around. Since the wisdoms have gone the caving has ceased but once I get some money one day I'm going to not only get them straightened out but also some professional whitening. They're the clear kind so don't worry about it. You'll be glad later!

I asked about invisalign and I wasn't a candidate :( but you can hardly see these anyway. They are just annoying in your mouth. The total came to $4,100 approx, and my insurance is paying part of it, but I still have to pay a lot of money. Invisalign is more expensive (from their website)

I've got them, my orthodontist had to spring for it because he had promised i would be done by the time I left for college. He didn't make it so he swallowed the cost for invisalign because he can't do the adjustments like he would need to for normal braces. Invisalign he doesn't have to do that. He just gives me the set and i change them every 2 weeks.

The only part I really hate is that they put this ring around my second to last back teeth (on the top) and there is a little pointy thing that sticks in and my tounge hits that and it's on both sides. Otherwise it isn't too bad.

You really don't notice them after awhile. As XZeroII said, the bands on the back teeth will bother you for awhile, and now anytime you bite your lip accidentally, you'll get cut. Otherwise, you don't really notice them. Except when they tighten them.

Yeah. After you have them for about 3 months you really don't notice them until they're tightened. It also seems like after 5 months or so your gums get tougher and it really doesn't hurt as much...sometimes. I've had braces for....3 years and, um...15 days, exactly. I still have to have them for another 3 months or so. 2-3 years my @ss, lol.

Braces for 4 years here! At least you get the clear kind, I had the silver ones' Ohhh how I hated going to have them tightened, and the retainer after that.

Have fun

Hey i had them for 2.5 years, and well.... lets just say i would be too TOO embarassed to show pics of me before i got them. You eventually get used to them, and i think they are the best thing i could have gotten done. having nice teeth really gives you confidence!

LOL don't worry dude, when their off, you'll be proud that your teeth are scrate. Also maybe not so much with clear braces, but my teeth seemed HUGE when I first got them taken off. It's an exprience. The most fun was lunch at school, and having to make sure you didnt' have "some lunch saved for later hanging around"

Get it over with, you'll be proud of your new teeth

True, but your smile...well that is one of the first things people see... female or male!
