I'm not a big trekkie, just went to see it cuz I get paid to watch it...
Mannn since i dont follow star trek all that much its like watching a Foreign Film. All the trekkie talk makes no sense. Not a bad movie, feels like a 2 hour episode or something.

I have not seen it yet (given that it's 3am on Friday morning here), but I thoroughly believe the "2 hour episode" sentiment. I believe (as evidenced by previous TNG movies) that the current cast is inherently incapable of expanding their dramatic roles to convincingly fill the big screen. "First Contact" makes an admirable (for Star Trek) attempt, but fails miserably in the second half's "Zefram Cochrane worship". The Star Trek franchise, in my opinion, may well benefit greatly from taking the risk of putting new unique characters into a tough situation somewhere in the ST:TNG universe, perhaps using actors more familiar to the big screen. Take a chance of moving the focus away from a Starfleet bridge crew and do something different. Show a grittier side of human nature, one where bathrooms exist, where uniforms have pockets, and where people do things in their spare time other than read/watch Shakespear, listen to classical music, and do calculus homework.

Babylon 5 did a series of 2 hour made for television movies that have a very different feel from the original episodes, but were quite successful in convincingly retaining the spirit of the series. It's possible, but the people putting together the Star Trek movies currently don't know how to do it.

"Hater", Ameesh? I love Star Trek, but hardly think it's perfect. I can certainly criticize it where I feel it's appropriate. Do you disagree with my assessment?

Ahhhh shat-up ASS-taroth :p. Explotions, collision of large objects, death, people jumping out of space ships, earth being attacked by space invaders that look exactly like the people living on earth but with bad attitudes and agumentations OVER and OVER and OVER again, I mean what more could you ask for :D? Star Trek movies ARE star trek episodes, but with a higher budget :). I don't mind them, they're a good escape from reality sometimes.

Most of the 2 part STNG tv "movies" were far better than anything on the big screen. Trashing Cochrane and creating a Queen Borg among other disasters was really crappy.

When they destroyed the Enterprise the FIRST time, I thought it would bring an end to the movies. It's a good thing that society doesn't have money in that day and age, or they might destroy the economy as often as they do it these days. I can see it coming:

Picard: "This blasted replicator is messing up AGAIN!!! Computer, initiate auto-destruct sequence..."

It depends on how well this movie does. The door is still open, albeit not wide.

Not a valid argument. In one of the TNG episodes they showed Data in the future. He had adopted many of the traits of a distinguished, older gentleman. He had some gray hair at the temples, etc. The idea is that he can make himself look older if he wishes.

There was an episode on a few nights ago.. the one where the holographic character from a Sherlock Holmes style story..

He wrote something on paper and then data ran out of the holodeck with it.

The paper was still in his hand, but it shouldnt have been able to leave the holodeck.

STAR TREK ERROR!!!!!!!!!!!

Moriarty? Those episodes are f-ed up anyways. Eventually the character leaves the holodeck, too, so a piece of paper is probably explainable.

They made a portable holodeck that would keep running and made moriarty think that he was out when actually he was just moved from the holodeck to the portable.

What they need to do to make a good Trek movie is, get a new cast, create a new ship, and have a new mission. StarFleet S.E.A.L.s!! a 1st strike reactionaty force of say 8 people, human and alien. Make it less technobably and more action/buddy movie.

Perhaps Ameesh thinks Nemesis is a Microsoft product.
