I went through 150 rnds of .45 ACP and 100 rnds of .44 Magnum. I brought my two .45's and my Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum w/8" barrel. One of the guys I was shooting with rented a Glock .45 and I put a few clips of ammo though it. I really liked the Glock actually. Might have to pick one up.

Anyway, a good time was had by all. We killed many paper targets.

You're going to be raped by gun fanatics for calling it a clip.

What? ;)

I don't have any ringing in my ears. I wear good quality hearing protection.

Good for you. Too often do we take our hearing for granted.

I went to the gun range last week and shot a couple of my dad's 45's, a 9mm, and a 40.

Getting my first pistol tomorrow (Ruger P95) and my CC should be ready at the Sheriffs office pretty soon now.

Did you use Quake sound bites after every shot?

"Boom, headshot!"

Cool. Indoor range or outdoor? Unfortunately, the only indoor range here had to ban 9mm because of the crowd it was attracting, so I can't use my Glock 17 there. It's too cold to go to an outdoor range usually this time of year as well.

Will they let you shoot it with a .22lr conversion? ;)

Yeah, actually they would. My friend has a 9mm Beretta with the 22LR conversion that I shoot there. Unfortunately, I'm too broke at the moment to justify spending the cash on that versus rent or food.

Wait, they were getting too much business? Or 9mm is associated with a certain "crowd"?

Let's just say that the people showing up were holding the guns sideways and spent more money on their car stereos than the car itself cost. They were also such poor shots they hit the target holders more than the actual targets. In the end between the cost to replace stuff and disruption it was causing the other shooters the city decided just to ban 9mm altogether. I'd say more but I might get into PC-police trouble.

No kidding, one of the guys shooting there got a phone call so he slid his "ears" off and started yaking on the phone while other people are shooting at targets. He's talking away on the phone with both ears uncovered and finally walks out into the lobby. What a moron. Once you damage your hearing there's no going back. Don't take it for granted. Invest in some quality hearing protection.

Indoor range. Why would a range ban 9mm? It has higher muzzle velocity than say a .45 but it's a much smaller caliber. Do they allow .357 Magnum? Almost the same caliber but much more powerful.

If you want to dissuade certain behavior you should go after the behavior not the caliber associated with it.

They originally only allowed air rifles, 22LR, 9mm, and .38's. They just don't have the proper backstop for anything bigger. I agree they should've focused on the irresponsible behavior itself instead of the caliber. This is a small municipal range staffed mainly by volunteers, so I think they wanted to keep any potential problems to a minimum. I don't really agree with it, but I can understand it.

I was at a machine gun shoot with some friends, and some jackhole was standing there holding a ~1 year old kid with no ear protection. We offered them a set of our earplugs, new in the package. The guy said "no thanks, he's alright." Some people are idiots. :|

There were a couple guys like that in our group. I'm probably not the best guy to show someone else how to shoot (because I'm impatient) but I did give a few pointers. I was really there to put some ammo through my guns and have a good time. One nice thing about never having shot a gun is that you don't have any bad gun handling habits yet. It's best to go with someone experienced who will take the time to show you how to shoot properly and accurately. Also, don't go for the hand cannons right away. Start out with a smaller caliber.

9mm is also a very cheap round to purchase.

I used to work in a gun shop close to the inner city. Can't tell you how many people came in there saying that they wanted a "niiiine" .

We also had a huge selection of traded in (mostly sold) cheap ass 9mm pistols with names that you had nver heard. Tested one out once before we put it on the shelf. Second round through got caught in the slide sanding straight up and down, before it was even fired.

We never would sell them a gun. After all it was at our descression and we could be held accountable if we did not use our best judgement.
