went in for a checkup/cleaning. why, in the year 2006, with all the advances in technology, are they still using metal picks to clean your teeth? i hate those fvcking things!

also, why is it when you get x-rays done, they cover your chest with the lead blanket thing but point the x-ray gun at your head?

i do have one good thing to say though: i  my dental hygenist. she is so damn cute.

plus its pretty much the only place where i can get a woman to touch me. even if it is through rubber gloves and she wears a facemask and goggles...

What tools do you expect them to use? Surgical steel is very durable and can easily scrape out plaque and other stuff.

i dunno. something more modern than 11th century?

they need these like laser things that just flash light onto your teeth and it kills all the bad stuff in your mouth and whitens your teeth at the same time. that would be cool...if you lived afterwards anyway.

Haha, I just had my cleaning done earlier today. My teeth don't look ANY different...

I hate getting my cleaning done with those metal picks, because my gums bleed like they were just shot with a .50...

Did they clean your teeth with the sound waves? My dentist just waves a thing around in my mouth to clean and it uses some resonate sound waves to break up the plaque. It's pretty neat. They still use the pick to get the big stuff, but otherwise it's pretty high tech.

The lead blanket's for your nuts so the x-ray doesn't fry your ability to produce.

the heavy metal jacket is precautionary... while they may be taking xrays of your head, there's a chance that excess radiation could hit your body and potentially cause damage if you were sufficiently exposed. saves them from lots of lawsuits and god-knows-how-much in damages.

the explorer is used as there are some spots that can't be reached. Even if modern technology improves upon this some dentist are used to them and habits diehard. Plus some things are expensive, most patients don't have any issues with them anyhow so why would they upgrade.

As for the lead chest protector you wear for x-rays it is to protect you, especially your thyroid. granted the exposure is small, better safe than sorry.

as opposed to the x-rays hitting your brain. That's alright. But let's protect the pecks.

it is an acceptable risk. there is no need for your torso to be exposed when they need to look at your mouth.

As far as im concerned, if you are going to bombard me with radiation, at least let me cook evenly.

she could've used an ultrasonic instrument on you. no scraping with those. all you should feel is the sensation of a light touch and water. next time ask her if she has a cavitron she could use to get your tartar/stain off.

the lead blanket is to protect you from scatter radiation, especially your genital region b/c that is the area most likely to be affected. truth be though there isn't much radiation exposure at all with dental xrays.

i do have one good thing to say though: i  my dental hygenist. she is so damn cute.

funny, my gums rarely bleed when i have my teeth cleaned, and that's not because of the Hygienist. it's because i don't have any gingivitis/inflammation.

you most likely do.

I can't stand the ultrasonic cleaning thing. I would give up national security information to avoid having that thing used on me. I'll take the scraping any day before that thing.

I always eat a big bag of Cheetos before I go. They are cleaning them anyway.

I typically snack before I go to the dentist also. Normally i brush my teeth right before I head out the door though.

Ha, ha doesn't everybody do that? I recently had to get a filling replaced, I had forgotten what it feels like to drill teeth :frown: Since I started flossing the dentist doesn't have to do much cleaning/chiseling (yes my dentist does the cleaning.)

try flossing, youd be amazed. people always whine about dentistry being painful and what not, well you want painless dentistry? try using a toothbrush
