wow. Looks beautiful. Have to keep the place in mind.

Besides the place being beautiful, US dollar goes a long way.

I mentioned about the $500 hotel/plane package. Other things that blew me away:

1. real pearl necklaces - $5
2. huge lobster dinner for two - $50
3. 1L bottle of tequila - $3
4. 1-hour full body swedish massage - $7
5. 5-hour private boat for snorkeling - $30

It's so darn cheap over there!

Yea, no language barriers whatsoever.

It was hot. Probably 88 to 90 every day but didn't sweat coz that sea breeze blowing all the time.

Did you go to Manila? I would LOVE to visit Corregidor. WW2 history FTW!

Yes we did.

We stayed at Renaissance Hotel in Makati.

Got to visit the brand new Mall of Asia. They say it's the world's 3rd largest mall.

Didn't visit Corregidor but we went to the Macarthur memorial park where General Douglas Macarthur led the largest naval battle in history.

From Wiki:The Battle of Leyte Gulf, 1944. The largest in terms of tonnage of ships and also in terms of the area in which the action took place. United States and Australian forces included 17 large aircraft carriers, 18 smaller escort carriers, 12 battleships, 24 cruisers, 141 destroyers, smaller ships, and around 1,500 planes. They won a decisive victory over Japanese forces, which consisted of four aircraft carriers, nine battleships, 19 cruisers, 34 destroyers and other ships and around 200 planes. It is estimated that about 200,000 personnel were involved. Leyte Gulf was also a major air battle, and was the scene of the first use of kamikaze planes. It encompassed several distinct actions over the space of three days, all of them linked by the strategies of the Allied and Japanese commanders.

Thats WWII history for ya!

Are you a non-Filipino by any chance? Next time you go, have a native talk down the rates a bit - business always charge more if you look like a "foreigner" than they do to locals 🙂

Lol. Somebody gave us a heads up on this. But then again almost all the people visiting boracay island were foreigners.

What was impressive was my wife, with the blond hair and green eyes, actually doing a very good job in haggling prices. She didn't let being a "foreigner" get in the way of bargaining.
A good example was in Greenhills (in Manila). A fake Coach bag for $20 became 15, then 12 and finally she got it for $8. Then she compared it to my Mom's "real" Coach bag and you can't tell the difference between the two.

That's great but if you had brought a native with you, you could have probably gotten the price down a bit more but that's a good deal anyway

Did the "real" bag come from ebay? 😉 My wife and I will be going in the next couple years. I'm a native speaker (along with other languages) and my wife is learning a few phrases that'll impress some people...

My mom mentioned that she bought it from the department store at the mall.............so I'm assuming it must be a "non-fake."

You guys will love it there. We plan on going back in a couple of years, probably hit some sites that are supposedly still pristine and untouched from scuba tourists.
