Basically the interview went well. It was for a position of XML App. Developer. He asked me to come in even though my resume said nothing of XML. The interviewer asked me to gauge myself 1 to 5 on how well I think I know certain topics, (XML, HTML, Java etc) I was honest and said I was about a 2/5 for XML but a 4/5 for Java and some others as 3, cause I didnt want to sound like I have a big head.

My question is, Do you think me saying 2/5 for XML will hurt my getting this job....even the the interviewer seemed to really like me and thought most of my answers were excellent? I clearly stated how I am willing to learn.

Should I send a thank you letter to him also since I will not be hearing for about 2 more weeks if I got the job or not?

I would rather be honest than lie and get the job and be in a hole later. And yes, send the thank you asap.

Personally, I would've been like, "WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT?! OKAY!!"

Then whe says, "WTF are you talking about?!" I would say,

"YEAH!"

it just depends on the company

some hire based soley on if they think you can do a job with no training

others plan on training you "their" way regardless of your previous skills/experience, so they just want someone they think is trainable

its a crap shoot

good luck on getting the job

yeah, it probably hurts you when you say you're weak at the primary skill a position entails.

Yeah, but I also explained how I had been doing my research on it recently, and he even asked how I would go about learning a new subject in an specific time frame.

HAHA! I can't believe this. That was you I interviewed? No, you aren't getting the job. I blew you off.

If I thought my chances at getting a job were based on a "crap shoot", I'd just go play Craps. It's a lot more fun.

He's just being a wise ass like the others who try to copy Dave Chapelle. I got news for them,
You're not Rick James either

It can go either way.

Good luck though!

XML is easy, so as long as you don't suck in general I don't think it will hurt you too much. I'd be more concerned about what language the application is actually being developed in.
