I'm still a little woozy but I figured I would relate the experience while it was fresh in my mind.

Basically, my bottom 2 teeth were impacted and the top 2 were erupted.

The Doc came in and put the mask on me and within a few seconds I was high as a kite. For example, the "wooshing" of the air conditioner vent turned into "boom boom boom boom" and my voice seemed to be coming from far away as I tried to answer his questions. After that they stuck an iv in me and I just sort of drifted away.

All told, the procedure took ~ an hour but it seemed like no more than 10 minutes. I felt nothing at all during the procedure and even now I feel nothing all all except numbness in my lower jaw, lips and tounge.

All in all it wasn't bad. Now I just have to wait and see what kind of post op pain develops. (the first thing I did when I got home was to take one of the Demoral -sp?- pills that I was prescribed)

On the plus side, I am basicallyu getting a 4 day weekend out of this. ;)

Oh, and excuse any spelling mistakes. I'm still not completely lucid yet. :D

Bite me!!!

Oh wait, you can't :D

Drink cold drinks and eat ice. It'll help with the swelling.

Were you in pain or did your dentist recommend you take them out now before pain may develop?

I got lucky, I got to keep my wisdom teeth. It seems some poeple recover pretty quickly, but I've know a few people that have been miserable for weeks after having them removed. Chances are you'll have a quick recovery if you take good care of them.

Keep those sockets where the teeth were removed good and moist. Dry socket sucks ass I hear. Keep wet gauze packed in there for a day or two. The pain will set in in a few hours. I got mine done with only local anesthetic (so I could drive myself home).

No pain really, the bottom 2 were getting close to pushing into the teeth in front of them which could have caused problems. The top 2 were coming out too far because they had nothing to push against. Also the top 2 were "softer" than normal and had been chipping pretty badly.

The big thing for me was the difficulty in cleaning teeth that you really couldn't get to. I was always chewing gum to keep away the rank breath.

i loved having mine taken out. for a week, all i did was hang out on the couch, pop oxycodone and T3 pills, and get waited on hand & foot by the lovely & talented one (wife). my bottoms were impacted too, same as yours.

you wearing a head sock for the icepacks? chicks dig 'em.

edit: OH AND BTW... teabags work *awesome* as gauze replacements and they have a natural clotting agent. your blood is much tastier when it is tea-flavoured. once your sockets clot up nicely you won't feel as fragile in terms of eating & talking.

did it about a year ago.

drive to the dentist myself - local anesthetics - extracted all four wisdom teeth - drive back home (only ~7 minutes away).

i did not take any kind of drugs or painkiller whatsoever afterwards (don't like drugs and have allergic reactions to some, so if i can still take the pain i usually just tough it up). man, the first 24 hours was hard, i tell ya..

I just had one removed today and that seemed like a PITA. I had one removed back in 1994, then 1997, and one today. I might have to go back in a few weeks or months to get the last one removed. I really hate the dentist!!

If you are able to post on ATOT straight after leaving the doctor's office, then you are doing pretty good.

I had a dry socket after I had my wisdom teeth removed.

What a royal PITA. It went on for like two weeks - hurt like a mother.

When I had it done, my gums got so swollen that when I closed my mouth they would actually bump into each other before my teeth would touch...meant no chewing for me for a few weeks. All in all, I was in pain for about a month.

ouch.....soup is good if you're hungry, just make sure it isn't too hot
and no straws....the sucking is bad for the extractions.
