just got back, and a few impressions (maybe some pics tomorrow, I don't have my new Comcast host page setup yet)..
Doom 3, while it looks great in their little video, really reminds me more and more of a Resident Evil game on roids...the video they showed was probably 90% the same as what they showed in 2002! I was highly upset that they couldn't show anything more than that!
Half-Life 2 is going to be very good, and they are going to make that Sept 30 shipping date.
Robin Williams (yes, that Robin Williams!) was let into the demo 'theater' right in front of me! He said his 9800 card "rocks" - and he is one little guy! He was just there as a fan, which is pretty cool.
Painkiller is a lot of fun, a souped-up version of Serious Sam games with the best looking boss characters of all time thus far! I have the current record for killing the boss in the "ruins" map in 1 minute and 5 seconds..the Dreamcatcher guys were very nice - they remembered me from their Gore tournament last year, though they were quick to distance themselves from that game as much as possible! Along the same lines was Will Rock, but I didn't see the bosses, and it didn't look as good as Painkiller.
Ground Control 2 looked very cool, though I think I may have been the only guy to talk to them on Thursday, they weren't getting much attention at all!
I want StarCraft Ghost to come out on the PC!
I missed the free lunches at the God lot, which is now an apartment complex under construction!
Why wasn't Dungeon Siege 2 shown to everyone? I wanted to see it!
Halo PC looked WAY better than the Xbox version, as it should.
More FPS titles - I thought Call to Honor was the best FPS at the show - very enhanced Wolfenstein/Q3 engine, the best squad AI I have ever seen, and tremendous sound effects. Trinity looked cool, they character has the ability to see in 3 or 4 different modes, which was a cool effect. Breed was better than I thought it would be, Chaser was worse than I thought it would be from the demo, which I was high on - There were 4 or 5 other FPS games as well, but nothing that really grabbed me too much.
Nvidia's 5900 card rocks - the 5800 sucked A, but the 5900 is the real deal. ATI's next card will be interesting to see!
Booth babes were the worst of any show in the last 6 years, which is as long as I have been going to the show.
Eidos should be eliminated as a company for pushing the garbage that is "backyard wresting" - they had a little ring set up with booth babes (show's best, as usual), but they had a real idiot on the mike and some of the most ignorant people I have ever seen/heard as their "guest" grapplers...I could have taken these guys at the same time, they sucked and were highly annoying.
Eminem's game was the second worst at the show.
That N-gage thing is crappy.
I'll come up with more comments tomorrow!
