I have never been approached by speaker/van guys. However, I was at an aunts house one Sunday when someone knocks on the door. Look out side to see a huge white 18 wheeler in front of the residential street. The guy had a truck load of furniture in the back of the trailer. His sales pitch was - We were delivering a truckload inventory to a local retailer that refused to pay/accept so now our company is stuck with this stuff. Instead of driving back to N. Carolina our boss has authorized us to sell this "surplus" stuff at way below invoice/cost. I looked out the door once again and looked at him and said No thanks.

Oh, and before any goober tries to counter with the "hey, you're the 'lifer'" argument, look at how long I've been here, and my PPD. I'd hardly call ~8 posts a day a huge commitment, much less a commentary on my social life.

Hey your a lifer so you have no social life;)

grillmaster: That means your moving on in life. The speaker/white van scam is usually aimed at college aged males or younger. The furniture scam is a sign you have made it to the suburbs.

They tried this scam on my street last spring. Got about half way around the block before the local constable pulled up to check them out. For some reason they disappeared without doing the rest of the neighborhood.
