What's the deal? They sell you junk or they try and rob you? My boss brought the junk speakers once and gave them to me but I think he only payed $20. He knew what he was getting into -- I think he just did it for entertainments sake :).

Jackasses. I have been approached, usually coming out of a bank or from an ATM, and it has always been two idiots with the same old "We got two sets instead of one" line. I tell them that I know their speakers suck, so not to bother.

BTW, every time up until the last one, it was always a white van. The last time it happened, it was a white Ford Explorer.

who are these people that hadn't heard of selling things out of the back of vans before coming to AT?

It only happen to me once many years ago. My buddy and I just left the comic book store. It was a white van. It was some guy and his kid brother. They gave some bs about they had some extra speakers that were meant to go to nudie bar. They said the speakers were worth $2000. The would let it go for $400 dollars. I just look at them weird. My buddy pulled me aside and said "Hey, you take the kid and I take the bigger guy. Then we jack them for their speakers.". I told my friend, forget it. Didn't even think about this incident until I read about it on Anandtech.

Looking back and knowing about these scum, I should of let my Samoan buddy kick their arses.

ElFenix, take a step back and look at the cultural status of many ATOT members. The vast majority lack even basic common sense or fortitude to survive in the real world. You see all these YAGTs and other pathetic posts. You think these people go outside? You think they have lives and would hence be privy to tales of common knowledge such as the White Van Speaker Scam? A damn good number of ATOT'ers can't even make everyday decisions for themselves, read the news, or carry out simple social interaction without help of a committee. These are the people who haven't heard of such things before coming to AT.

*edit*

Oh, and before any goober tries to counter with the "hey, you're the 'lifer'" argument, look at how long I've been here, and my PPD. I'd hardly call ~8 posts a day a huge commitment, much less a commentary on my social life.

what people don't realize, is that it's the same white van and same people selling these. they have this special power to be everywhere at same time.
