Just got an Xbox, couple of questions...

First, I am glad I bought this...it's very, very nice. I wanted to pick up a couple of accessories, and I wasn't sure about a couple of things... First, is the DVD playback kit (remote) all I need to use the Xbox as a DVD player? Second, I want to pick up one of the AV packs so I can use the S-Video connection on my Panasonic Super Flat. They have two, one apparently adds support for S-Video and optical audio connection, and then their is another one called the "High Definition" AV Pack that supposedly adds support for connecting to a HDTV. I don't have an HDTV right now, but both AV packs are the same price, so I was wondering if the HDTV one will give me S-Video connectivity also so I could get the better one in case I upgrade down the road... Thanks...

*heads back for some more sweet Halo action*

I don't know about the highdef stuff, but as for DVD playback, that kit is all you need. It comes with a remote and a little thing you have to plug into a controller port. It just accepts the remotes signals.

<< Connects the Xbox console to most TVs with interlaced or progressive component video inputs including high definition ready TVs that support 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i component video signals. This pack also supports digital or surround sound audio receivers. Ideal for high entertainment systems, this pack provides the highest quality audio and video experience of any video game system. >>

EDIT: As for the HDTV one, I am not sure. Though, it appears the one I linked above will do HDTV, IIRC HDTV is infact 1080i, and 16:9 apect ratio

Xanager is right about the DVD playback. Unfortunately batteries are not included . . . bastards.

As for the High Definition AV pack, it includes Component Video outputs and no S-Video outputs. You'll want to use the Advanced AV pack. AFAIK those packs have the same audio outputs.

There's one a/v pack that has optical sound and s-video and another that has optical sound and component video outs. You don't necessarily need a hdtv to use the component video outs as my tv has the component inputs, but isn't hdtv.

exactly... i have the advanced (HDTV) a/v pack and use it on a standard TV (Sony Wega). Just make sure you're TV has component video inputs (Red, Blue, Green, Red, White). If not, I hear S-Video is almost as good...

Good luck!
