I came back home for a few days for Christmas break and what do I get but an automated call from my town's church. Yep, you heard that right, a recorded message telling everyone to come to Christmas mass and feel the love of God and all that stuff.

Is it just me or does this seems weird to anyone else?

Well heck, if they're use that, they might as well offer telecommuting church services as well.

Or better...1-900-SAVIOR1.

"Hi there, I'm wearing nothing but a small cloth and a crown of thorns. I'm also tied and bound to some thick, hard wood. What are you wearing?"

...sorry, my mind wandered a bit there.

yes be sure to come to mass, and give us money. I can no longer be surprised at any lengths a church will go to to bring in people and money. It's a business like any other

I dont like automated calls at all. I just hang up on them. Now a personal phone call would have been much nicer.

That's kind of creepy and weird. I think Churches are desperate for $$$$ these days and need to fill the pews and coffers.

As sad as it is, it's the truth.

"The most preposterous notion that H. sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history."

Almost as bad as the moron Atheists who use public forums to recruit people and spew out bigotry all day.

recruit? as an atheist, I personally don't go around, making it a mission, to "recruit" folks into my train of thought.

I went to a church service once. One time. I filled in their little logbook.

They've been sending me newsletters and stuff ever since. Somehow they've managed to keep track of me through four moves. I have no idea how or why they do it.

The local nondenominational church is packed to the gills every Sunday. I would give anything to see their accounting books. Tuition for the school went up every year, and the last year services were cut(Spanish being taught later instead of from kindergarten). Where'd the money go?

My daughter's out of there now, and she goes to a Catholic school. I'm much happier with that, but I would prefer she went to the local Quaker school. The tuition is twice as much than where she is now, so I can't afford it :^(

Catholic schools can give a great education at the expense of unneeded brainwashing. I should know; I received a great education after 13 years at Our Lady of The Bleeding Knuckles, Sister Mary Viscious, Principal, Catholic School.

Seriously, this is my Thirty-Thousandth-Post; I wouldn't waste it on something untrue.

Great eduation at the expense of half-truths and brainwashing. But it's safer than public school and you get to keep, totally for free, a life-long mental trauma courtesy of the beatings and embarassments you received from Sister Mary Viscious and her Sister Nunlings.

They were fairly mellow with the religion when I went there. That was many, many years ago though. You had religion class, and went to church every so often, but it was all lower key. The Christian school my daughter was going to tried cramming religion into everything :^S

The Quaker school I mentioned is even mellower on religion, and they stress the learning of technology, and freedom of thought. They're much more aligned with my thinking, but the cost....

I got free, multi-sourced mental trauma, courtesy of my schoolmates at public school. :p

As a Christian myself I find that kinda odd. It's a bit ignorant, even.

At my church they only pass the offering during the first service. Most non Christians will only attend the second service (asked by a friend, etc), so they don't have to even see the offering or hear about it. The last thing my church wants is money from people who don't even regularly attend. The offering is 100% voluntary and is not forced in any way.
