Just got an 805

Well my old computer just s*** the bed a few days back, and I had to get a new rig. I have a conroe ready system with the 805. I can't justify spending more than the cost of the chip itself for the 805 since I will be migrating to the conroe shortly.

I'm just curious as to how far I can expect to OC in an aluminum mid-tower with good ventilation in a very cold room (65F on average).

Wanted to clarify that by stock I meant the cooler included with the retail chip.

I would say not far beyond 3.2Ghz.

I couldn't get past 3.0 without the system shutting down when it goes over 70c. Also, had to leave the case cover open.

I say with those type of ambient room temps 3.2-3.3ghz...maybe a tad higher if you dont have to give it any vcore boost...

Why not get a scythe ninja for only $40 shipped at newegg and then you can overclock to 3.6 easily. Besides, you'll need a cooler for the conroe eventually. Sure, the conroe is pretty cool and can probably overclock pretty well with the stock cooler but I bet even it could benefit from a nice aftermarket hsf.

Don't get unreasonable expectations. I needed a Big typhoon, good memory, and a 550 watt PSU, and still can only get 3.5. Saying 3.6 easy is misleading.

I'm going to build a water cooling system for the conroe once I get it. I'm building it all from scratch, and I need to wait another two months until I'm back at college to use the machine shop we have to do the metal work.

cool!!! i am thinking of buildng a water cooling system, though I dont think temps are going to be the limiting factor...more likely for those who get 6600 or less conroes, it will be the FSB the mobos will support...

I just want one to play with for a silent PC...
