I love this thing! My 4G U2 iPod bit the dust yesterday, well, partially. For the past month the hard drive has been acting wonky since I dropped the thing from at least 5 feet (I was surprised it still worked), but yesterday it took an excessive amount of bashing it into the wall to get it to start, and even then it only kinda worked.
Anyways, this thing is nice, and I love how much thinner it is than the old one. Haven't tested the sound quality yet, my Shures are being repaired, but I'll let you guys know.

Supposedly the 5G iPod has a good deal better sound quality than the 4G. From what I've gathered, the 4G was bass-shy and had a rather anemic sound.

I had it for 2+ years, it's a portable hard drive; do the math, douche bag.

I can definitely vouch for the lack of bass with the 4G iPods, had to use the EQ presets to get it to sound good, even then it would begin to distort before it made any useful bass. Wasn't very bad with the Shures because they're pretty bassy, but it definitely showed when I plugged it into car speakers, for example.

Reading comprehension FTW? I said I had to hit it into a wall to get it to turn on. Hard drive was clicking, took iPod, hit it at wall (I NEVER SAID I THREW IT), voila, hard drive stops clicking, iPod starts. All of this started when I dropped it about a month or two ago, it was fine up until then.
