Definitely an interesting experience. It's strange to hear your tooth cracking off of the jaw. I'd say it's still less disconcerting than getting a root canal, with the inch long drill bits jammed in your tooth.

And I took the tooth home! For a wisdom tooth, apparently the roots are incredibly curved.

I am glad I was fast asleep when they cut out my wisdom teeth. If not, I'm sure I would have passed out when I heard the sound of my tooth cracking off. That just makes me hurt to think of!!!

my wisdom teeth roots were curvy too. it's not really an unnatural phenomena. ;)

It's been over 3 days now, and I started having a bad taste in my mouth this morning. Hoping it's just the abscess draining and not dry socket, since I'm getting married in a week.

You'll know it if you get a dry socket. If it starts hurting like hell, make a point to get in the dentist office and get it packed (they will scrape the bone a little and then pack it with medicine). Don't sit there and suffer (if it does start).

Mine were pretty straight thankfully. I got novocaine (sp) and nitrous.....woohoo! The dentist was a petite thing, so she eventually ended up practically crawling up on me to get them out with those plier things. It did sound weird, like maybe breaking a stick underwater......crack crack crack...snap!

Got to keep 'em too, just because.

OP, are you about 5? My 5 year old grandson just had his first tooth pulled...by me with a pair of needle-nose vice-grips...the same pair I used on his mom and uncle...:D

Wisdom teeth suck. I still have one left, but the other three have all rotted from the inside and been pulled over the years. (dammed genetics anyway)

I had a few teeth pulled for various reasons. One with an absess when I was a kid, a wisdom teeth a few years back (still have 3 to go but they aren't really bothering me yet) and more recently a spare tooth I had growing half way in the middle of my mouth ceiling. was a weird one. Left a huge hole that has healed now but there is still a small hole left.

I think I had 11 teeth pulled, all baby teeth to make room for Braces. Hate going to the dentist so much! Luckily I have no wisdom teeth and none forming. Now that i'm 26 I think i'm safe.

BTW, the sound you hear typically isn't the tooth cracking. Your teeth are held in by ligaments. The sound you hear/feel is ligaments popping apart.
I had a tooth pulled a few weeks ago. Dentist said it was the damnedest thing. IT was a bi-cuspid but had 3 roots instead of 2.

I had my first one pulled a couple months ago. It wasnt a wisdom, and if I had it to do all over again I would have had a canal and a cap done....

Chewing in the gap is annoying......

I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled back when I was like 17 or something. Worst pain and experience ever. I had two teeth pulled for braces a couple years later and had no problems at all. I was fine later that day.

example, it's a stereotype. Not true, but a common belief.
