How am i suppose to know my tail light is busted? i figured he'dwarn me and tell me my light is busted and to get it fixed. but he didnt.. so yeah, should i contest the ticket? or just pay the fine and get over it?

Yup tell them it's fixed and it's dropped. [edit- fix it too, it's just a tail light and it's safer for you]

I had a cop who pulled me over for too much tinting. I wrote me a $250 ticket yet told me to appeal it at the same time. (did he feel bad?)

I wasn't gonna scrape off my $200 tint... I drove my very car to the court, showed up to the appeal and told them I got rid of the tint. They took my word and dropped it. :)

You had a taillight out. You were ticketed for a taillight out. How the hell could you contest it!?

Pay the ticket. What is it, 25 bucks?

Fix the taillight. Get over it.

Is your tail light out? If it is then legally, you deserved the ticket, pay it and get over it.

I thought most cars came with a sensor that told you when your tail lights went out.

You'll get it dropped once you....FIX THE TAILIGHT.

You're bitching about not being able to know if it's out or not is the exact reason we have fix-it tickets.

You're right man, how the fvck were you supposed to know it was busted?!?! It's not like your car is YOUR responsibility or anything. The government should pay for and appoint someone to you specifically to keep this from happening again.

Seriously. Its not the cops fault either though, because how are you supposed to enforce laws using only warnings. Sure a speeding warning still works, but if its something minor and people grow to expect a warning 100% of the time for a busted tail light, then they wont ever get it fixed.

So fix it and go to court, and you'll probably be fine.

how does this work? do all states let you fix it before your court time and then get off scott free?

is there any way that the officer could give you a ticket for broken equipment, and you'd have to pay the ticket no matter what, even if you got it fixed?

Part of the driver's manual states do a walk around of your car every time you are prepared to operate it, including periodic checks of all lights.

He had every right to ticket you for it, an obligation in fact.

Get it fixed, get a receipt stating exactly what it's for, go to court at the appointed time, tell the judge you're sorry about not realizing it was out and you got it fixed right away, show him the receipt, and maybe, just maybe, they'll drop it.

On the other hand, you may go to all that trouble just to hear the judge say that's good and then tell you that you have to pay the fine and have court costs tacked on as well.

It might just be cheaper to pay the fine and fix the light.

If the light was broken.. what the hell are you gonna contest?

Pay the fine. And do pre trips on your vehicle.

Cops don't owe ppl a warning.
