I am im NJ for business travel(im from California) and just picked up a speeding ticket(50 in 35) and "Improper passing". Am I fucked? I've heard the fines here are pretty rediculous. Anyway to fight this?

Thanks

Any way to fight it? Were you speeding? Are you willing to travel to NJ to fight it?
I think you might just want to bite the bullet and pay the ticket- it'd prob be more expensive to travel and show up in court rather than just send in the check.

Now enjoy the next 100 "just pay the damn ticket" responses.

Do they have a Trial by Declaration here? Also anyone know how much the fines might be....and if they can be made in payments...

Thanks

I don't live in Jersey, but I'd expect something around $300 for 15 over, especially at that low a speed limit. 50 in a 35 is worse than 70 in a 55.

It doesn't say on your ticket how much the fine is?

50 in a 35 is pretty bad, lol.

Never. Don't try to fight it. Pay it off within the required time frame or you will be paying with less-sweetened penalties.

Many undercover cop cars wait at airports to welcome people into their town with speeding tickets. Airports have tried to temper the state and the city cops by parking airport security marked cars next to unmarked cop cars to aid drivers of speeding rules. However, this does not always work, and many people get mad at the airport instead, blaming and finger pointing as usual.

Speeding tickets are a way to help pay for jobs. Why would the state cut one traveler loose when cops are issuing tickets to their own city people for doing +2/+3 mph over the limit?

You're pist, but so are government employees trying to keep their jobs. Someone's gotta pay for big decision makers' boats and houses. That money keeps the state running, which keeps the feds running, which keeps corrupt business ideologies running from business boys that want to gamble with the economy and its people.

Welcome to the game of life!

There was some chump here who posted about 2 weeks ago or something about his rates going up 80 dollars a month for speeding 5mph.

Or something like that. :)

Ignore it... the worst New Jersey could do is ban you from ever being in the state.

Of course... they could also send some mafioso to hunt you down and give you cement loafers.

But.. they hardly ever do that anymore.

Should be on back of the ticket for points and fines. I don't know too many cops in my town that would throw both at you unless you're really driving like a moron. I would see if you can get out of the speeding ticket by pleading guilty to the improper passing.

well you could show up in traffic court with a lawyer. but I assume people do that to get out of getting points, which you might not need to worry about.

Where (specifically) did this happen?

Also, "anyway" does not mean the same thing as "any way." Educate yourself.

Pretty sure our tickets are way cheaper than California. You did get TWO tickets though, so it might total around $300. My ticket for careless driving was $140 IIRC. I think my ticket for improper display of my license plates was about $50 (had my old plates on, my new plates were improperly displayed on the floor behind my seat).

No trial by declaration that I'm aware of. Call the phone number on the ticket and talk to the clerk. I asked about an option for a zero point violation - they said I could do that but the $140 ticket would cost about $450.

Enter the ticket here to find out how much it is:
