I just got a 2002 Black Scooby Impreza 2.5RS 5-speed. I like the car a lot. Got it for about almost $20k out the lot. I can't even drive it :( I don't know how to drive stick.. I test drove the auto and that was nice.

Anyone got anything good to say about it?

Can anyone give me the details on a '98-00 Impreza 2.5RS? I'm considering buying on in the not so distant future!

How's the fun factor of the car? Reliability? Mileage?

And since I live in Toronto, AWD will be a plus.

I-Club -- all you could want to know about Imprezas. Says the site is down right now, check back later. Everything I've ever read about the Impreza has been good. Well, I have heard some complaints about the interior on the WRX, and the fact that it might be kinda small for tall folks. Japanese reliability, four banger mileage, AWD fun.

I ripped the following information from i-club member, whipsaw.

Impreza ranked 5th of top 100 performance cars of all time.

The list was compiled by Autocar magazine, (well-respected British mag.). They polled all their road-testers, contributers, and staff writers. They also sent ballots to members of the motoring fraternity, (designers, engineers, and Formula 1 team owners).

Top Ten Performance Cars Of All Time are as follows:
10) Honda NSX
9) Lotus Elise
8) Mazda MX-5
7) Jaguar E-type 4.2 Mk1 (1961)
6) BMW M5 (current model)
5) Subaru Impreza Turbo (original - 1994)
4) Ferrari F40
3) Audi Quattro 20v
2) Porsche 911 RS Carrera 3.8
1) McLaren F1

So basically a close variant of your car is right behind a Ferrari =D
Enjoy your car... Subies kick ass!!!

Welcome to the Subie family :) But I think the pre 02 RS looks better. I'm saying that even though I drive a WRX. Maybe I just like hood scoops (functional or not) :)

perry - heh, I don't plan to mod it that much, I'll be pretty satisfied if I can get the monthly payments paid off.

beat mania - thx man, I just got the latest model, and since I have seen like only 1 or 2 of the new impreza's my self, thats real cool. It's not even on insurance companies computer's yet.

I didn't get to test out the WRX, but my uncle did. He was comparing it to a BMW 325xi (the car he currently has), and he said that it wasn't enough punch, lol.

those wrx's suck before the turbo spools. Like a geo metro. Off the line any 6 cylinder will spank on it. The nature of a mid-size turbo...

Yeah you're right. 0-60 in ~6 sucks. Badly.

Uh, no. If you're talking about 0-15 maybe any 6 cylinder will give it a run but who drags up to that speed?! Anyway don't forget that you can blast the RPM into never never land and release the clutch with hardly a care in the world; thanks to AWD you don't really have to worry about launching properly because it takes care of all of it for you.

That's what I thought too ... (heh, I just sent in a check of 3 months worth of payment last month. really want to pay off that car fast). But the mods! The rally wing. Oh ... I want them gold wheels too! Every Impreza need gold wheels. Just spent a few hundred $ on some strut tower bars too ...

Not trying to dis the car or anything, but when I first saw this thread an image of the "Mystery Machine" from Scooby Doo popped into my head followed by a sedan with a similar paint job.

I beleive is Subie, or sooby.

I got a Forester and its a blast to drive. Especially since I do a lot of skiing, and Soobs will run with any performance/sports car when it is snowing. Just don't race anyone when the ground is dry.

I really don't know much about that particular model but I have a 1990 Subaru Wagon with 180,000 miles on it and it is hands down the toughest, most reliable car I have ever owned. The only thing that comes close is my old 74 Super Beetle but it required a lot more maintenance than the Subaru ever has.

They're ok cars, but by no means a top performer. The 2.5s are fun to drive, however, they lack balls. The WRX is more for the performance people.

I've driven my friends '00 2.5RS and its fun, but think Suburu wants WAY too much for them.

I love the look of IMmprezas, dont know why others hate it. But i do agree they are overpriced. They are nice cars and everything, but they should be alot less IMO. The WRX should be that price with leather.
