Good afternoon everyone.

I want to be able to use my PS3 on both my PC monitor and my HDTV (Either/Or, not both at the same time). Both are close enough to each other for HDMI cable length to not be a problem. What device to I need to accomplish this? Links to such device appreciated.

Thank you 🙂

You'd probably want a splitter. So, something like this would work:
www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?p_id=8204

I haven't used it before, so I'm not sure how well it works!

EDIT:

Stu, isn't that a switch? He needs one input (PS3) to multiple outputs (monitor, HDTV) not multiple inputs to one output.

I've use my 2-1 switch in reverse before. But the splitter is more suited for that, you're right.

Huh... I never thought about using it in reverse because I never needed to, but electrically I suppose it's all the same. It's not like HDMI cable has an input side and output side.

Only thing is with certain HDMI switches (like mine) they have an "auto-switch" which switches to the input of the device that was just turned on. I wonder if it'll work the same in reverse, and if the OP turns on his PC monitor it'll automatically switch to that "output".

I had no idea that you could even use them in reverse... interesting!

Mine is a simple 2-1 switch from Monoprice, as dumb and straightforward as they come, no auto nothing. Can't say for sure then if reversing it would still work with the one that i linked the OP to then.

The one part I didn't consider... although my monitor does have HDMI, it doesn't output audio (no built in speakers).

Gah...

Does it do HDMI audio passthrough? Some do.

Or, you could hook up the analog connector that came with your PS3, run that into an RCA Female-3.5mm Female Y cable, and plug your speakers/headphones into that. I've done that before.
