Just got a Nokia 3589i from Verizon, manual mentions GPS - Can I hook this up to computer?

Just got this Nokia 3589i cell phone (tri-mode) from Verizon (national plan).

I know it has cool features like web browsing, instant messaging, etc. but the manual mentioned it had an internal GPS and a seperate antenna built into the back of the phone so that if you called 911 it could report your position. Can I hook this phone up to a computer and use it with mapping software? Or NetStumbler...

Just a thought.

Maybe if you mod it somehow, but AFAIK, none of the phones with GPS actually are able to give maps and directions, nor are they able to interface into any software.

Nope. Its only usage is for E911 at the moment.

Right. Many new phones actually let you switch between location for E911 Only and Full-Time.

My guess is that in the future, phone apps and providers will be able to offer you services, products, and assistance by determining your location. Having your telco know where you are at all times is kind of creepy though.

On another note I found out you can get an uplink cable and use the phone for >200kbps internet access out of your minutes... geesh I have unlimited nights and weekends, this could be great when returning to the country where the alternative is 28.8 dialup...
