Just got a new TV...

Ok, ok, I'm cheap. Neighbor was throwing away a 50 inch toshiba theaterview rear projection tv (tp60h15) because it "didn't work". Turned out that just the tuner was shot - by using my VCR as the tuner and running it in through the component video I got myself a great TV for free....

Now the hard part. My old TV was in an entertainment center that held all myDVDs, my stereo, vhs cassettes, vcr, dvd player.....

What's standard to use with these monsterous TV's to contain your electronics? Are there cabinets built to handle the weight of these things, or is it normal to buy a cabinet to set beside the TV that has all the electronics?

Yes.

...check out the pics thread for some ideas, if nothing else. i can't personally recommend any one setup 'cause my home theater is my computer.

I have a 51" sony HDTV and I have a cabinet next to the TV. If I had something like a DLP or LCD I would get a low, wide cabinet for the components. You can also find entertainment centers that go around the TV. Two towers on the sides and then a bridge piece in the middle that connects them.
