Plug it in, look at it.
For dead pixels, get a black screen any way you can. Dead pixels will be white or colored.

There's not much to "using" a LCD panel. What exactly did you have a question about? Maintainence?

Well for example i use to have my power off monitor setting at 1 minute. I fiugred I walk away and I really dont like it to be on. I hurd the lamp on LCD go out quicker if I set the it to 1 minute is this true?

Also I thought there was a program to use to check dead pixel.

also question in regards to how to clean a Lcd surface.

I have my screensaver set to 10 minutes, and monitor turns off after 15. If you get up momentarily, i would think it would be better to keep the lamp on, rather than shut it down if you're only going to be away for a couple of minutes.

I don't know about the dead pixel program. I don't see how the monitor would be capable of communicating what pixels were out. Perhaps the program displays a series of colored screens to help you more easily see what pixels were out.

My LCD came with a cleaning cloth, similar to the kind you get with a pair of glasses. I've never used anything but a soft damp cloth or the supplied cleaning cloth to clean either my desktop LCD or laptop.

JasonRX7 thanks for the reply.

That color display utlity is exactly what I was reffering too.

I set it to 30 minutes now.

also is screen saver pointless as the screen would not have any screen burn since its different techonology?

I thought that a screensaver was pointless on a LCD panel until I left my old laptop running for a weekend while I went out of town. When i came home, the screen had never powered off and when i closed the browser that was open, there was a shadow of the title bar and the X in the top right corner. I thought that the screen was permanantly ruined, but honestly after about a week, it had faded away.

Since then, I make sure to set a screensaver and power off time. Especially on my desktop, since you can't turn my monitor off with a power button.
