Just got a new 2.4C, question about temps

I am running a 2.4C in a Gigabyte 8KNXP. I am running Prime95 right now at 3.3 (275x12). It appears to be stable, but the temps are very high. 70C load. I have tried two different heatsinks, both the retail and a Volcano 7, but they are both giving me the same temps. I am wondering whether this is a result of the motherboard reading high? Or is my chip just running really hot. Thanks.

EDIT: At 2.4, it still runs really hot, above 60C.

Use common sense to figure it out. Touch the heatsink, is it really hot?

Well, the heatsink is quite hot, but I am able to touch it for a while without pain. Not sure what that means. Haha.

Here's some info you might find useful:

My 2.4C @ stock voltage (1.525V)with the retail HSF on it and using the intel thermal pad thingy:

45-48C Idle, 60-62 under full load.

2.4C @ stock voltage (1.525V) with retail HSF, scraped off intel thermal pad thingy and put on artic silver ceramique:

39-41C Idle, 55-58C under full load.

Before burn-in, with the intel thermal pad the highest I hit was 65...it still ran fine and stable overnight...just a bit hot. You dont need to worry about burning out your P4, because when it hits 70C it will just throttle down to a lower speed to reduce the heat.

If I were you I would scrape off that intel (*&# on the bottom of your HSF and use some artic silver for sure! :)
