Pain in the ass to set up so far, but I'm working on it. So far I've got one wireless Windows 2000 client to connect. For some reason, the XP managed wireless network config will not connect to APs that do not broadcast their SSIDs. Any suggestions? I've already tried to manually type in the SSID. It simply says that it cannot connect.

I think you need to install whatever utility comes with the adapter itself and enter the SSID there. That's what I had to do with my linksys wusb11 .11b adapters.

I've tried that with the Cisco card I have in my laptop. It's all configured correctly, but still no connection. I can't figure out what's going wrong.

Are you doing this on your home network or a work network? Do you have MAC address restrictions in place on your AP? Do you have WEP turned on, and if so, have you configured it correctly using your wireless adapter's utility?

That's about all I can think of.

Bought the new router because my ancient SMC would not allow the disabling of the SSID broadcast. WEP is not currently enabled. It sucks too much bandwidth, and I was hoping to get rid of it by using MAC filtering and removing the SSID broadcast.

I finally got one of my XP machines to work with it's Linksys wireless by using their client (which isn't supported in XP, by the way). The Cisco card I have, however, still isn't working, so I'm rebuilding the laptop with Windows 2K right now.
