i dont see the appeal of the latops other then haveing good stuff under the hood. i think they need to give them a redesign because it is kinda of a boring design which to me lacks functionality. i want to have media buttons and whatnot. i want a play pause button on there and that kind of stuff. i use those all the time in my desktop keyboard and it is much eaiser then haveing to open the program and then click play especially on a trackpad. i dont know..i jus think thery hardware cases both desktop and laptop are getting stale and need to be freshened up bit. but then agian i am probably wrong cause it seems like everyone else still likes them. i would snap one up in a heartbeat if they would change a bit and stop trying to be thei thinnist ting ever and add a hair more functionality.

Eh, they look pretty, no doubt. But, I would still take a ThinkPad T60 over the MacBooks.

Leopard is the next major revision of OSX (10.5) that's slated to come out at the end of the year.

I think he means Leopard, 10.5. It looks really cool based on some of the rumors floating around.

Merom based Macbooks should be out this Summer, just in time for the school year. :)

Personally the 17" seems like the best option currently, it's only a little bit heavier and slightly larger (you'd definitely need a dedicated carrying case though) than the 15". Initial impressions of it are exceedingly great, the battery life is apparently over 4 hours as well which is really nice for a 17" notebook.

Make sure to wait for the Merom chips to be released!

I have the same laptop. Bootcamp works great. I've only had one small graphics issue in Windows, but other then that it is nice. How do you tell what version you have? The front top left (above the HD?) heats up like a bat out of... anyway, it gets hot there. I'm going to get my IR Temp and find out what it is. Does keep you warm on those cold New England nights though.

I could be wrong, but I think Merom is 64-bit and has a larger L2 cache. Also, it runs quite a bit cooler than the Yonah.

I got my 15" Macbook Pro this weekend too. Got the 1.83Ghz one though. Wasn't willing to spring the extra $500 for the better specs.

I love the machine but there are faults.
It DOES get hot. I use it on my desk so it doesn't matter to me but if you touch the strip of metal right above the function keys it does get so hot that it hurts.

Whining, luckily no whining so far as far as I can hear.

In regards to the screen, it's definately not beautiful, it's just adequate. The viewing angle is awful. I shift my head up a bit and the colors just start fading. I love Sony Vaios for its screen. So nice.

I installed both Bootcamp and Parallels Workstation. Both work great, but some BSODs. Can't play 3d games in Parallels but I can play in Bootcamp just fine. Though only game I've played so far is Star Wars: Empire at War.

But for me I give it a B+. Very nice. Could be better.
