I just got a laptop display panel from a 1200 series Compaq Presario laptop. I want to mount the display in an automobile for watching movies, playing games, and managing music.
I know that these displays were designed for digital input, where each pixel should be exacly the intended color. It seems that DVI would be the most compatible interface. I might just try to use the original laptop mainboard, but that limits my expansion potential and prevents me from connecting a game console. Are there any electronics wizzards out there who have tried to adapt VGA, NTSC, RGB signals to a digital display?
Also, most laptops use analog scaling to stretch non-native resolutions. Is this usually done by the video chipset, or the display panel?
