hey there,

ok....i have no clue what to look for in a PC card, does it even matter what kind i get?

i mean, i dont understand any of the terms used to describe these cards(im still using dial up modem on my desktop) 🙁
all i know is that some cards require a dongle, others have a chunk of the card sticking out of the laptop so you dont need to use a dongle, and then theirs the integrated ones(like xircom realport) nice but really expensive.

my thinkpad came with a lucent win modem, so i guess i dont need the integrated one.

my main concern is that i want a card that wont stick out of the laptop, like the xircom, BUT, what kinds of features should i be looking for?

oh yeah, i will be using my laptop at school(using the schools line)

thanks in advance

Well, how old is the laptop? There are different types of laptop card slots. What type of PC Card do you want? There are modem/network card combos. I would think your school would probably have a LAN, which is different than modem. You have to give us more info.

ok...here's some info. i got

IBM ThinkPad T22:
PC CARD SLOTS
2 Type I, 2 Type II, or 1 Type III
Cardbus 32-bit
PCMCIA 2.1
Zoomed Video

this is the card i bought today: netgear card

i dont like how the card sticks out from the side of the laptop, i saw a xircom that was totally enclosed in the laptop
