i just got a dell latitude 500 and i was working on it on the floor of my apartment. As i was reaching for my phone which was charging on the desk i pulled the chord when a pencil case flew off the desk and landed on the laptop screen. it now has what seems to be 3 scratches on it about 1 inches long each.. its like i have 3 dark lines i highlighted somethign with.. i'm not sure if the outside protective screen is scratched or cracked.. but what ever the case may be it sucks cause i just got this about 2 weeks ago.. any suggestions? If nothing can be done thanks for hearing me vent.. :(

Yeah...box it up and send it back. You are obviously too stupid to own a laptop. ;)

do you have the "i'm a dumbass" warranty they offer for...well...dumbasses?

EDIT: dumbass can also equal drunk or college kid ;)

a few of you are telling me to send it back.. should i call dell and tell them what happened? or would that completely kill any chances i have of getting anything done?

You didn't pay extra for the accidental damage "warranty" (really insurance) did you? If so, you're covered.

If not you might email or phone Dell customer service and explain what happened. Since it's so new, maybe they'll give you a better deal on repairs.

Someone here knocked over and killed his plasma screen while taking it out of the box. He was honest about it to Dell and if I recall correctly they gave him a huge discount on a replacement.
