just got a job, investment banking analyst

52.5k base, 10k sign on, and 30-40k annual bonus. not bad for a college grad

What firm? I actually have an I-Banking offer from a bulge bracket firm, and don't expect to work more than 90 hours per week. It appears that I'll be getting a bigger salary and bigger bonuses to start.

yeah bulge brackets will pay you about 120k a year, but that money wont take you too far in nyc. i will be with legg mason in baltimore.

I was envious... for a second. No amount of money for my freedom (40 hours is enough)... (especially since I've gotten used to working from home the last 2 years).

I had the opportunity to work for Amex up here, they needed a Financial Analyst for their local business accounts, I was told that for the first year or two I'd have to do 40-50 hours a week of training, plus my normal 40-60 a week of work. If I was good, I MAY be able to get done with training in a year only, but that also meant they'd dump more work on me, I mean, more "responsibility". BTW all of that overtime was unpaid since it's salaried/comission work.

I turned them down, and went a slightly different way with my career. I'm much happier now, even though I'm not making quite as much.

90-100+ hours and I thought that was a joke. Good luck and hope you don;t burn out like a lot of others have.

Short but good read about your job type

That's fvcking insane. A $100k salary is nice, but what's the point in all that money if you don't have time to enjoy it? Once every few months i'll pull a 60 hr week, and i thought that was insane.

I might lose my job if I don't stop being sick. I haven't been in since Tuesday.

Can you get me on with you? 😀

Congrats man...
That's such a b!tch job though, money will be good, but it will be dead end and you will probably kill yourself.

I hope you aren't basing your annual bonus on estimated performance...cuz that would be extremely stupid.

I just started my first job out of university; max 40 hours a week (told to go home at 4pm everyday 🙂), management position, lots of training, MBA within the next couple years, $61k start.

Just to cool the ego a bit... 😉

I think I'll buy a porsche now! 😀

That blows...
I'm salary...but i get all extra hours i work off...
ie. work sat, get a day off when i feel. I get 3 weeks off too 🙂

Hourly wage is: $29.23 (as it says on the pay stub)

The only way I could ever consider doing more than 40hrs of work (apart from extra work covered by comp. time) is if I worked at a small startup where a)nearly everything depended on me and b) I find the project really really REALLY interesting.

Apart form that, I would be more than happy making less money and working regular hours.
