got a 15GB hdd from a friend yesterday (he said it was in his linux box that he got a bigger hdd for)

i want to put this in my second system and put win98 on it

when i boot up with a win98 boot disk, and run fdisk, the pc freezes before i even get to the main fdisk menu

I don't know much about linux, is this happening because the drive is formatted for linux(ext2????)

I take it fdisk won't read a linux partition? (Or at least be able to take it over?)

try A:>fdisk/mbr see if it writes you a fresh one

FDISK does not automatically build an MBR on any drive except the
primary master. FDISK will only create an MBR on the primary master
drive if the drive does not already have a valid MBR. The 55AAh
signature at the end of the sector is checked by FDISK, if not present
the MBR is written. Also if the drive is blank, an MBR is written.

Otherwise see here:

Try the repartition stuff built into Win2k. Pop in that Win2k disk and start setup. Quit it after you repartition.
